The women’s X Mission 2 is part of Salmon City Trail line. This particular shoe is one of their more cushioned options— said to have precise fit for hard heel strikers on all types of surfaces.
The Cushioning level for the X Mission 2 is a four out five rating with only one other shoe in that category, the X Scream 3D, rating higher. If you’re familiar with Salomon’s Mission XR, the X Mission 2 is the newer version. A few of the differences include the different lug pattern and a lower profile heel.
Salomon’s Quicklace system is a nice change of pace from laces. The occasional adjustment to tighten the laces was needed on longer runs, but overall it stayed in place. Other features worth noting is the Sensiflex technology that supports forefoot flex, providing a little extra wiggle room for folks with bunions or wider forefeet. And, the Sensifit technology cradles the foot for a secure fit.
The Non Marking Contragrip and multidirectional lugs performed best on hard-packed terrain, but surpassed our expectations on the trails. The protective TPU toe cap offers a bit of protection when you take these shoes off the sidewalk and onto the trail. However, if you plan to run mostly trails we would suggest Salomon’s trail running line for added grip when things get muddy or sandy.
After testing these shoes for over four months in sloppy spring conditions, they look good as new. These shoes did have a short break-in period, but after a few runs the rubbing stopped and the shoe became quite comfortable. Fit is true-to-size.
